Very good complement of a telephoto lens from L serie.
The autofocus is slower with the extender (more difficulties on my 350D to find a direct focus on subject, specially when the difference from the previous focus is far) but the accuracy is still the same.
The loss of image quality is very small and personally I use it without any care on that point.
I didn't notice any difference one the stabilisation system so in conclusion I'm very happy with the couple 300mmF4 IS + extender x1.4 (I don't use it for action pictures).
